This is Week 28 of our 52 weeks of Sharing Memories - A Genealogy Journey Journal. I hope you'll join us with your memories! Write them down - you don't have to share them. Your memories can be private - write them in a journal at home, or they can be shared publicly here on OliveTreeGenealogy Blog or on your own Blog.
This week I thought it would be interesting to talk about parents and grandparents occupations. I don't know about you but I love seeing those occupations on census records - finding out what my ancestors did for a living.
So I'm just as interested in the jobs of my parents and grandparents. My father and mother both worked outside the home - mom as a medical secretary, dad for the Department of Veteran's Affairs.
My grandma Ruth (maternal) worked as a sales clerk in a Department Store in Guelph and her husband, my grandfather, was the manager of the Guelph Lumber Company before the 1940s.
My other Grandmother stayed at home with her six sons, and her husband was also at home, having been injured at work early in the 1900s and never able to work again. It must have been rough going money-wise!
What did your parents and grandparents do? Do you know occupations further back? I'm going to list some of my ancestor's occupations in another Sharing Memories Journal Week.
