The children are back in school and new grades and new teachers have been introduced. Do you remember your favorite grade? What grade was it and why did you like it? What was the most fun thing you did in that grade and what do you remember most about the other students and your teacher?
For me it had to be Grade 9. I loved that I was now a teenager and going to the High School in our town. We only had one High School so all the kids from the entire town attended. I seem to recall we had 150 students when I went into Grade 9.
I loved that grade because I had one of my favorite teachers for my English classes and homeroom. Mr. Fred Parrott who later became Principal of Ajax High School, brought me out of my shell and showed me that I had a mind and that my opinions and thoughts mattered. He worked really hard to get me to open up and respond to questions in the class. He once told my mother that he knew I knew the answers but I wouldn't raise my hand to contribute. I was too shy! Those who know me now know how UNshy I am now! I made that word up by the way
Learning for me was fun. I loved doing my work in class, especially in Math. I hear you all hissing and groaning at that but I loved Math. The three Maths Trigonometry, Algebra and Geometry were subjects I drooled over. And I got my best marks in those subjects. Chemistry and Science were my worst with Geography a close runner-up.
So Grade 9 for me was exciting and filled with new adventures. What about you?
