Case #9: Another Found WW2 American Soldier Dog ID Tag

L. J. Holston Jr. WW2 Dog ID Tag
Alex from Germany contacted Olive Tree Genealogy with another found American soldier WW2 Dog ID Tag!

The man (Lemmy) who found the tag in his garden wishes to return it to descendants.

This is Olive Tree Genealogy's Case #9. Can we get it to the "solved!" file?

Once again I'm asking my readers to help send this Dog ID Tag home.

The name on the tag is

L.J. Holston Jr
35708257 T 43 45 AR

UPDATE: Leonard's nephew contacted me and provided me with the name and email of Leonard's daughter. Case solved, and on Thanksgiving too!

  2. Not sure how to pass this info on to you. I did find L. J. Holston Jr on Fold3 - with that serial number. His full name was Leonard J. Holston, Jr. He was from Virgo County, Illinois, born in 1919. He died in 1963 and I also found him on Find-A-Grave and Ancestry.com. The only tree I found was private.

  6. I have a phone number for possibly obtaining a copy of his obit which may have descendants listed. I can call if you like - I'm not sure you would want me to proceed.

  7. Terry if you can go ahead and make that phone call for the obit that would be terrific. Becky that's terrific about Robert's daughter. I'm on the road right now and will check in later this afternoon. Thanks for all your hard work

Robert was Leonard's younger brother...he has also passed. He has several daughters. His daughter, Theresa, lives in Terre Haute and is in contact with Marilyn.

Pls contact me if you run into a road block.

  11. Dear Marilyn

Sadly there was no response to a message sent to you on Facebook some time ago :-( So the tag was sent to your father's niece (your cousin) If you read up you will find some emails and contact info and I will check my email box to see if I still have Alex's contact info (he is the man who found your father's dog tag)

Wishing you best of luck in connecting!

    Lorine
