Samuel Munro and Francis Love Mortgage 1879. London Ontario.

Looking over this document we see Samuel Munro is getting a Mortgage for fifty four dollers. This is a Chattel Mortgage so we see a nice list of the items Samuel was using to secure the loan. A document like this provides a fasinating look into the details of our ancestors lives.

I can not help but wonder if Samuel was able to pay off his loan.

1879 Mortgage for Daniel Walker and Alexander Lucas. Middlesex County Ontario.

This mortgage is part of a bundle of old papers that I have been putting online here on the the Blog and on the Olive Tree Instagram account. Daniel Walker was a farmer in Mosa Township, Middlesex County Ontario. It looks like Daniel was borrowing $555.00 from Alexander Lucas who was in Brooke Township, Lambton County.

Note this is is a Chattle Mortgage and not a Mortgage for property like most of us are are familiar with. A Chattle Mortgage is generally when you secure a loan using things that can be moved around. This gives us a fantastic look into the lives of our ancestors as it shows us what they owned and what they valued.

Mortgage, Norris Conrad Peterson, Sarnia Ontario 1879

This mortgage document was included in a bundle of Mortgage documents from Ontario. They are all dated from the 1870s and most are from the London Ontario area. However this one for Norris Conrad Peterson is from Sarnia in Lambton County Ontario.

I am not sure about the name of the second person listed in the document. It looks like Blacken or Blacker Scott.

This is an original document and as such I am sure a desendent would love to have it. If you are a desendent please contact me and I will be happy to send it to you.

London Ontario Mortgage Bundle 1870s

As part of my ongoing project to keep Olive Tree running without Lorine I am going through her Things to do files. I found this really interesting bundle of mortgage documents from the 1870s. I have no idea how Lorine got them but it is possible someone sent them to her to put online. If you are that person I thank you. All the mortgages are from the area around London Ontario Canada. Some of the names I have spotted are Thomas Summers, Francis Love, Samuel Munro, William Morrow, John Elliott, Hugh Russell, Daniel Walker, Alex Lucas, Alex Jones, Wm Hobbs, Neil Mc Phee.
