Great news. You can now join the National Archives Transcription Pilot Project and help transcribe documents. It's very easy, in fact I just went in and typed out one page of a document in less than 15 minutes.
The document I transcribed was the 1851 Petition of Edward Gorsuch found in a Fugitive Slave Petition Book. Ada's daily entries are repetitious and brief and difficult to follow as she uses abbreviations and letters (almost like a code) probably due to space limitations. Included with the diary and photo was this letter from the man who eventually became Ada's husband.

This hand painted fireplace screen was given as a wedding present in
1913 to Raymond John (Jack) Harwood & Florence (Flo) Beatice
Willard. It is brass with a round mirror which is painted with flowers.
Jack and Flo were married in England and shortly afterwards, left for Canada where they began their married life. It's going well!
There was a lot of trial and error, gritting of teeth, mumbling under my breath and yes, outright yelling at my computer. That never helps but it makes me feel better.

Today is an exciting technology day! My new iPhone 4S arrived this morning and I'm heading off soon to my service provider to have them activate my SIM card.
I'm going to have fun trying out the new SIRI capabilities on the iPhone 4S and am super excited about it! Since I'm upgrading from a 3GS to the 4S there are lots of new features for me.
