Sinking of The Empress of Ireland 1914

On 29 May 1914 the Empress of Ireland collided with another ship in the St. Lawrence River. It sank with 1,477 passengers on board. It sank in less than 15 minutes and an estimated  1,032 people died.

A forgotten tragedy....occurring between the loss of the Titanic and the start of WW I, the Empress is unknown to most people.

My Grandmother came from Scotland to Canada aboard the "Empress of Ireland" in April of 1911. We are forever thankful that she did not come later.
