Ancestor Look-A-Like - What's Your Story
I have always told my husband he looks a lot like his great-grandfather. He doesn't see the resemblance but to me it's striking - especially in the mouth. What do you think?
Do you have an ancestor you think you or another family member looks like?
Hubs has a photo of a young girl in his family and it's a bit creepy because she looks just like me!
I think they look very similar except for the nose. I think their mouths are just about identical and their eyes and eyebrows are very similar.
I wrote a post a while ago showing photos of grandchildren who looked like grandparents. If you want to see similarities among my family members, here's the link: http://nancysfamilyhistoryblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/through-four-generations.html
I was really interested to read this post because I have also discovered quite an amazing resemblance between my father-in-law and his 1st cousin 7 times removed and, believe it or not I have photos to prove it.
I've written about this on my own blog at http://www.emptynestancestry.com/2013/10/21/ancestral-doppelganger-discovered/, where I've also posted the pictures. Take a look and tell me what you think.
I'm pleased that others see the resemblance between my husband Brian and his ancestor William. The mouth is identical for me but I think overall there's quite a striking similarity
I'd never seen a photo of my father as a child or youth. I was visiting my aunt one day and she brought out some old photos to give to me. One was an 8x10 of daddy's family, which she was carrying face toward me. I could tell from across the room which person in the photo was my daddy because he looked almost identical to photos of my son at the same age (about 12). There was another photo in the group of daddy at about 4 that also looked like my son at age 4. Interestingly, my son does not any longer look like my daddy in same age photos.
I was always told I looked just like my grandmother who had died long before I was born. My grandfather and her sister would sometime stare at me and then say it was like looking at her all over again. It use to creep me out.
I could never quite see it myself until my aunt gave me a photo I'd never seen. When I went to pick up a copy I had maid at a photo shop up the cashier asked, "how are you related to this person? It's obvious it was taken long before you were born, but she looks just like you." And I was 30 years older than the girl in the photo at the time.
I also have a photo of a great great grandfather that looks just like my grandfather and now my nephew.
I was always told I looked just like my grandmother who had died 20 years before I was born. In my teens my grandfather or her sister would sometimes gaze at me and say it was as though they were seeing her again. At the time it creeped me out. I could never see the resemblance until years later my aunt showed me a photo of her I'd never seen. I could see it in that one. I had a photocopy made and when I went to get it the cashier asked how I was related to her as she thought I looked just like her. I was even much older than much older then than my grandmother had been when the 1918 photo had been taken.
I also have photo of a gg grandfather who looks just like my grandfather and now my nephew.
I found a photo of an ancestor who looks almost like me when I was younger. I have also located a photo of an ancestor of my husband's that is the spitin' image of him. Each photo was the classic "husband sits in chair, wife stands behind with hand on shoulder" pose. I couldn't resist! I photo shopped the two people together into one photo. Some who have seen it think it is us in costumes. Creeps our kids out!
I can't see it, other than the mouth - that's the only thing that is the same.

Definitely - maybe not the eyebrows.

The eyes and mouth look a lot alike.
ReplyDeleteNancy - Lee and Jeff look very much alike! Thanks for posting your blog link so I could go and have a look.
ReplyDeleteChristine, I left a comment on your blog. Basically - WOW. That's a really uncanny resemblance

ReplyDeleteI swear my brother looks like our great-grandfather!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a fascinating topic. I have a niece that looks so much like my grandmother (her great-grandmother). It's uncanny.
