Finding Your Roots - Every Sunday

PBS has a new genealogy series called Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. The series runs on Sundays, March 25 – May 20 at 8/7c

Finding Your Roots examines the histories and family genealogies of a number of well-known personalities.  I wish I could watch it!

I have a personal request to make. If anyone is on Shaw Direct in Ontario, and knows what package is needed to get this PBS series, please let me know.

Gale,

I wish I could watch it online but in Canada we cannot view online videos from PBS or other TV stations.

That's why I was asking other Shaw Direct subscribers to tell me what package I need to subscribe to in order to watch the program.

I should have explained about our Canadian legislation and fees which TV stations won't pay. So this means we suffer in Canada, unable to view these shows online.

Thanks anyway!

I am in Alberta and tried out the link. The first video I tried was not available due to technical difficulties (too many viewers?). I tried the second link and it played. I'll check it out in full this evening after Canada has beaten Mexico.

Hmmm. . went to PBS ,tried to watch "Little Dorrit" and got a message that the video was not available in my area due to rights restrictions

That's what I normally see.

I am getting John Lewis and Cory Booker but can't get the first episode.

I couldn't get Marsalis/Connick due to to technical difficulties. Did not get the not available in your area. PBS is usually much more aware that a lot of their viewers are in Canada. The major networks generally do not acknowledge that we exist and their feeds are not available to us. Who says there are no borders on the Internet?

It isn't the American stations or networks stopping us from seeing their videos.

Our Canadian fees are so expensive that most American stations simply won't pay. And thus we Canadians can't view the videos.

If the fees were lowered to something reasonable, American stations would pay and we could watch those videos.

The PBS Buffalo affiliate advertises itself as 'WNED Buffalo Toronto' - so if you watch on their site it works.

Try this

Hi, Lorine.

I live in British Columbia and am able to view the episodes "John Lewis and Cory Booker" as well as "Branford Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr." at this URL: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/finding-your-roots/video/

However, when I try to view the video clip of "Both sides of slavery" featuring Geoffrey Cananda (also at that URL), I get a message saying the item is not currently available and that the website is experiencing technical difficulties.

I wonder if your computer's location setting (in the Control Panel) might affect your ability to view PBS' online video content? (My PC's location is set to "Canada", by the way.)
