Winner of the DEATH FINDS A WAY Giveaway

Olive Tree Genealogy is pleased to announce the winner of the random draw for my book Death Finds a Way: A Janie Riley Mystery was Susan Gingras Calcagni.

Congratulations to Susan! Death Finds a Way is a genealogy mystery book set in the past and the present, and my first venture into fiction. I'm excited about the positive reaction from genealogy and mystery enthusiasts! With a 4.5 star rating on Amazon.com this is a genealogy mystery book you don't want to miss!

If you are not familiar with the story here is a summary:

Janie Riley is an avid genealogist with a habit of stumbling on to dead bodies. With her husband Steven, Janie heads to Salt Lake City Utah to track down her elusive fourth great-grandmother. But her search into the past leads her to more than she bargained for. Her discovery of a dark secret brings her closer to danger. Can she solve the mysteries of the past and the present, and untangle a web of lies before disaster strikes?

Read some of the reviews for the book on my author page  My other books (non-fiction) can be viewed on my Blog Book page.

Winner of the Ancestry 6 Month U.S. Discovery Membership

A few days ago Olive Tree Genealogy announced a giveaway. Thanks to TLC and Who Do You Think You Are, I had a  6-month U.S. Discovery membership to Ancestry.com to award to one lucky winner.

To enter, readers had to share my blog post about the contest and watch the first episode of this season's Who Do You Think You Are?, then answer a simple question. I'm pleased to say everyone who entered had the correct answer.

After the contest ended last night, I used a Random Name Generator to select the winner.

And the winner of the 6-month US Discovery Membership on Ancestry is

Terry Meltzer

Congratulations Terry! I will be mailing the instructions for claiming the prize directly to Terry. Thanks to all who participated.

And the Winner is......

Congratulations to Margie Stein Beldin, who won the Olive Tree Genealogy 3-day Conference Pass to the 3rd annual RootsTech conference on March 21-23, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah

Margie told me that
The ONE, amongst several, class that I would like to attend at RootsTech 2013 is:

Can a Complex Research Problem Be Solved Solely Online? presented by  Thomas W. Jones

I will do almost anything to hear him talk. Dr. Jones makes genealogy fascinating, complex and yet understandable and doable. He is a great presenter and one person who really makes me think!
Enjoy RootsTech, Margie!

Winner of Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner on an Outing With Her Scanner

Last October, Olive Tree Genealogy held a giveaway for a  Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner and Carry Case. The winner was Shirley Farrar and Shirley was kind enough to send me photos of how and where she used her new Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner outside the home.

Shirley tells me that she didn't go to the Ontario Archives as her first outing, instead she conducted some genealogy research at Toronto's First Post office. This post office was built in 1833. It is the sole surviving example of a British Colonial post office in Canada (the Canadian postal service was established in 1851) and the only museum in Canada that collects and studies pre-confederation British North-American postal history.

According to the website, its library and archives are available to researchers by appointment. As a National Historic Site it tells the story of the Royal Mail in Upper Canada (present day Ontario).

Winner of the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner Giveaway

Olive Tree Genealogy is very pleased to announce that the winner of the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner and Carry Case giveaway, as chosen by an impartial judge, is

Shirley Farrar

Congratulations Shirley! Shirley's reason for wanting a Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner was

If I won the Flip-Pal scanner, I would first scan all those mysterious family photos sitting neglected in a box.

Next a visit to my elderly aunt to scan her treasured and very protected photos and, with a little smoozing,  scan and stitch that coveted "Please Don't Touch" oval photograph of her father in his military finest.
A collage of the photos related to each family will become a welcome Christmas gift and also help to identify those lost souls and relatives who are hiding in the collages just waiting to be identified.
Disclaimer: Since I know some of the people who entered this giveaway, I did not choose a winner. Instead I asked an independent and impartial person, who does not own a computer, to choose the winning entry
