And there have been problems. NARA's site went down within the first few hours of use. Over 22 million hits in 3 hours tends to do that to servers! They've now had over 37 million hits since 9:00 a.m. yesterday. Wow.
Other sites uploading the census images also had problems which they are working to correct. But let's talk about what sites have census images online.
NARA has all states uploaded and they also have an E.D. finder to help you narrow your search. If you use Steve Morse's One Step Unified 1940 Census ED Finder you will be provided with an automatic link to the correct images on NARA. I've been using Steve's site and so far have only had to search through less than 30 images in each group.

FamilySearch.org had the following states online as of 2 p.m. EDT: Alabama | Colorado | Delaware | Florida | Kansas | Oregon | Virginia
MyHeritage has images and their blog states that the following States are ready for searching: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Missouri Wyoming and Rhode Island.
